Welcome to Bookworm Alley

Welcome Guest! Would you like to log yourself in?

You have just logged on to what is probably the most useful and valuable source of second-hand Salvation Army books. Bookworm Alley is based in Hadleigh, Essex in the UK, and has a wide selection of SA books, music and memorabilia.

Bookworm Alley has been run by Lt-Col. Joan Williams for more than 15 years. In this time she has helped many young people as well as a number of Salvation Army projects in India from the funds that she has raised. Joan has now decided to retire from running Bookworm Alley and handed over responsibility to Philip Hendy.

Philip is a Salvationist in the UK with a real interest in Salvation Army History. A new library has being built in Hadleigh to provide a home for the many books and memorabilia that was handed over from Joan. The library can cater for personal visitors - please phone before visiting to ensure that Philip can provide access.

Bookworm Alley is pledged to continue to use the profits raised from the sale of books and memorabilia to meet the needs of some of the people that The Salvation Army is working with in India and other parts of the world.

Since the library is based in Hadleigh, the location of William Booth's 'Darkest England Scheme', Philip is happy to provide conducted tours of this historical site. In addition, he is also able to provide conducted tours around Whitechapel visiting the locations of many of the places associated with the early days of Salvation Army. The cost of the Hadleigh Tour is £10 (lasting about 1 hour) and the Whitechapel tour is £30 (lasting about 2 hours). Please phone of email Bookworm Alley to arrange a date and time.
